class 3 PPE, why ?
Second-hand PPE is defined as any means of protection that has already been used in a Member State of the European Community*.
As a matter of principle, second-hand PPE can be hired out or made available again on the European market.
However, not all categories of used PPE can be rented or made available again.
French legislation excludes the possibility of using them for the class 3 PPE listed below** :
Respiratory protection
- Filtering respirators that protect against solid or liquid aerosols or hazardous or radiotoxic gases;
- Respiratory protection devices that totally isolate from the working atmosphere and diving apparatus;
Individual equipment
- PPE offering time-limited protection against chemical aggression or ionizing radiation;
- PPE designed to protect against falls from a height ;
- PPE designed to protect against electrical hazards when working with dangerous voltages or equipment used as insulation against high voltage.
- Equipment for intervention in hot environments whose effects are comparable to those of an air temperature equal to or greater than 100° C, with or without infrared radiation flames or large splashes of molten material
- Equipment for use in cold environments whose effects are comparable to those of an air temperature of -50°C or less.
