Hydrazine : Description and use
Hydrazine, official name diazane, is a colourless liquid chemical compound, with an odour similar to that of ammonia. It is miscible with water in all proportions.
It is a fuming, colourless, hygroscopic liquid with an acrid odour.
- Intermediate in organic synthesis (agrochemicals, pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry, etc.).
- Laboratory reagent.
- Blowing agent for polymer foams (PE, PVC, EVA, rubber, etc.).
- Reducing agent for metal salts.
- Corrosion inhibitor in the water of industrial boilers, and nuclear and thermal power stations.
- Fuel for rockets or fuel cells.
Hydrazine : Warnings and caution
H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour.
H350 - May cause cancer.
H331 - Toxic if inhaled.
H311 - Toxic in contact with skin.
H301 - Toxic if swallowed.
H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction.
H410 - Very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
P201 - Obtain special instructions before use.
P202 - Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P260 - Do not breathe dust/fumes/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264 - Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270 - Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
